Bricklaying students get valuable insight into careers in construction on visit to new homes development in Minster

Bricklaying students from EKC Sheppey College in Sheerness got to see what working on a construction site is really like when they visited a new homes development in nearby Minster on Sea. The students were invited by Jones Homes to its Shurland Park development, where it is building 171 homes on land off Larch End, as part of an ongoing relationship between the housebuilder and the college. They were given a guided tour of the construction site by Site Manager, Shane McIver, and Trainee Assistant Site Manager, Maya Bailey, who talked them through the process of building a home from start to finish. The budding bricklayers also heard about the importance of health and safety on site and the wealth of career opportunities within the industry. A total of 28 students toured the site in two separate visits held across two days. Last year, a group of eight construction students from the college were given a similar guided tour of the development. Daniel Irwin, Programme Director for Construction at EKC Sheppey College, which is part of East Kent Colleges Group, said: “Having strong links with industry employers is a major part of our offering to learners on vocational courses at the college and we greatly value our partnership with Jones Homes. “The site visit to Shurland Park was an excellent opportunity for our bricklaying students to see a real-life construction site in action, and to get a better understanding of how the skills they are learning on their course can be applied to the world of work. “I’d like to thank Shane, Maya and the team at Shurland Park for hosting the visit and giving our students a really useful insight into the kind of career opportunities that are available to them in the industry.” Shane McIver, Site Manager for Jones Homes at Shurland Park, said: “It’s really important as an industry that we play our part in developing the next generation of housebuilders and that’s what site visits like this are all about. “It was great to show the students around the development and to give them a better understanding of what working on a construction site is really like. EKC Sheppey College construction students ‘learn from the professionals’ at Jones Homes’ Shurland Park

Construction students from EKC Sheppey College in Sheerness got a valuable insight into what it’s like to work on a construction site when Jones Homes invited them to its Shurland Park development. The eight students visited the site – where Jones Homes Southern is currently building 171 new properties off Larch End in Minster on Sea – on Friday 14 June. The group, who are studying for their Level 2 qualification in Bricklaying and Construction, were shown different stages of build at the development including the show home, finished houses, piling, brickwork, scaffolding, and plots at the second fix stage of construction. Nicole Fitzpatrick, Head of Building Services at EKC Sheppey College which is part of East Kent Colleges Group, said: “We would like to thank Jones Homes for this opportunity and are looking forward to developing this relationship further in the future. “These links are vital in supporting our learners’ development and, as well as supporting tutor delivery, will allow them an invaluable insight into the latest developments within industry. “Learning from professionals via these links will help support with the transition into their chosen vocational fields and hopefully spur their passion for this industry further.” The students, who were all supplied with hi-vis vests and hard hats to wear during the visit, met Sales and Marketing Manager Sophie Steel, Construction Director Terry Brown, and Site Manager David Yeo. They spoke to the students about a range of topics including health and safety, the importance of communication, hitting targets, quality control, and the process of building a home from start to finish. Terry said: “Pursuing a career in construction is a great choice for young people as there are so many opportunities to learn, develop and progress. So, we were very happy to host the students from Sheppey College and give them a real insight into the work we are doing here and give them an understanding of what the industry is like. “These students are already making great strides by studying for their Level 2 qualifications and I hope that their visit to Shurland Park inspired them even further and has shown them what the possibilities are.”

Final hand over of keys at completed development in Lenham, Kent.

All homes have now been sold at Jones Homes’ Westwood Park development in Lenham. Construction work began on the site in May 2019 and the first residents moved into their new homes in October 2020. All but one of the homes have now been occupied, and the keys to the final property – a four-bedroom detached house – are due to be handed over to its new owner this month. Sara Stanhope, Sales and Marketing Director for Jones Homes Southern, said: “The handover of the final property at Westwood Park will mark the culmination of a five-year project to create an attractive collection of new homes in the desirable village of Lenham. “Over that time, a strong sense of community has built up among residents who have decided to make Westwood Park their home. While a large proportion of our buyers have been retirees attracted by the beautiful rural location and traditional design of the homes, the development has also attracted families and young couples.” As part of the planning agreement for Westwood Park, Jones Homes has provided over £140,000 to Kent County Council for primary school places; £60,000 towards open spaces; over £55,000 to local healthcare; £20,000 towards traffic improvements and a £10,000 contribution to local libraries. Prior to starting work at Westwood Park, Jones Homes built 19 new homes at its neighbouring Westwood Grange development in the village. Sara said: “We’re proud of our longstanding connection to Lenham, which goes back more than a decade to when we started construction work at Westwood Grange. The homes we have built have not only helped to meet local demand for housing but have also been carefully designed to fit seamlessly into their rural surroundings. Rob engineers a fresh start with new home in Hoo St Werburgh

It might be a cliché that engineers would choose the garage as their favourite room in their home, but for Rob Nunn it is certainly true. Because that is where the 47-year-old has created a dedicated workshop to make items for friends after moving into a new three-bedroom detached Huxley house at Jones Homes’ Walnut Grove development in Hoo St Werburgh. “I needed to make a fresh start so I chose Hoo as the place I wanted to live in,” he said. “I had cycled across the peninsula many, many times on bike rides and was impressed by the countryside landscape and the proximity to the River Medway.” It was on one such bike ride that he noticed a ‘coming soon’ sign for Walnut Grange so he called Jones Homes to register his interest. “They said they were building 65 homes and had already had enquiries from 400 people, so put my name down more in hope than anything else.” “One day, I got the call I was waiting for. I knew I had to act fast as this was a very popular development with only 48 homes going on the private market,” said Rob. “I wanted a three-bedroom house with a garage and the Huxley was perfect for my needs. “As I was buying off plan, I was able to choose the flooring and carpet throughout the house and the tiles for the bathrooms which was great because I was able to get the place to look like I wanted it to and I didn’t have to do any of the work. As an engineer I really appreciate the attention to detail that has gone into the build of this house and the high quality of the specification and the finish.” Rob and his youngest daughter Millie, now 24, moved into their new home in October 2022. “The best thing about the new house is that I have a garage all to myself which I have set up as my workshop,” said Rob. I use this system to create simple items, such as nightlights and bottle openers, for myself and my friends. “I also have all my tools in the garage so that I can be in there and potter about. It is my chill-out zone and helps me destress. I also have a Peleton bike in the spare bedroom which allows me to get some bike miles in when the weather is not so good or I just don’t have time to get out for ride. “I love living in Hoo as it is peaceful and quiet and has a real rural feel and a slower pace of life away from the hustle and bustle. I can see the river from the upstairs at my house and I often just sit and gaze at it and enjoy the feeling of calm it brings me.” The final new home available to buy at Walnut Grange is a four-bedroom Holford detached house, priced from £585,000. Luxury Homes and green spaces attracting buyers to Burgess Hill

Homebuyers are being attracted to a new housing development in Burgess Hill by its luxury properties and abundance of green open space. Sue and Allan’s new home in Burgess Hill is perfect for helping care for their grandchildren

Wanting to live nearer to their grandchildren was the main reason for retired couple Sue and Allan Paine to decide to move to Jones Homes’ Folders Grove development in Burgess Hill. The couple, who previously lived in Hove, moved to a new four-bedroom detached house at the development in July, and are now just five miles from where their daughter lives, in Bolnore Village. They’ve found their new place is just perfect for helping provide childcare for their 2 grandchildren, who are aged four and six years. Sue said: “Folders Grove is only a short drive away from where we previously lived, but it offers us much more than before. “We have a very spacious garden, which our grandchildren absolutely love being in, while we can sit and watch them play from our garden room, which is part of the house and opens into the garden. Our house is a corner plot and the garden has a unique shape which adds personality to it, and we will have flower beds and a water feature which we brought from our previous home. “We thoroughly enjoy walking around the site as it is very scenic and surrounded by greenery and there are a few ponds that you see on the walk. The grandchildren also love going round Folders Grove on their scooters.” Sue and Allan’s old place in Hove, where they’d lived for 26 years, was previously a two-bedroom bungalow they had converted into a four-bedroom home for their family. Susan said: “Since we did a complete renovation to our old property, it made us have high expectations for our new home, but it was also good to be able to move into a new home where no work was needed to be done to it.” The couple, who have been married for 48 years, found about Jones Homes online and Folders Grove was the first development they viewed. Sue said: “When we saw Folders Grove for the first time, it stood out to us. Everything was very spacious and looked appealing. The developments we saw after this one seemed much more packed together, which we were not keen on.” The couple purchased the Hartford Regent home style, which they were shown after a home they had hoped to put an offer on was reserved by another buyer. Sue said: “The sales advisor was very accommodating and offered to show us another home instead. Suzan makes a fresh start in her new home

Suzan Gold cried tears of joy after getting the keys to her spacious new five-bedroom detached house at Jones Homes’ Folders Grove development in Burgess Hill. The 68-year-old retired interior designer and her husband Allan, 75, had lived in the same four-bedroom house in Hove for the past 27 years. But after Suzan beat breast cancer, having been diagnosed with the illness in 2020, the couple decided it was time to make a fresh start in a brand-new home where they could create more new memories together. So, they left their old 1960s property in Hove behind and moved 10 miles north to Folders Grove. The pair first heard about the development after Allan, who has a part-time job delivering parts for Mercedes, noticed a Jones Homes sales office while he was driving through Burgess Hill on his way home from work. He called in to pick up a brochure and when he and Suzan looked through it later that day, they quickly realised that Folders Grove was the place for them. Three days after visiting the show home at the development, they had reserved their new home and put their old property on the market. The couple, along with their three dogs; a Yorkshire Terrier, a Jack Russell, and a Cavapoochon, are now all enjoying life in their new home. Recalling the day they moved in, Suzan said: “When I first got the keys to my new home I cried tears of joy and had to drink a glass of champagne to calm myself.” Suzan and Allan were both very impressed by the level of service and support that they received to ensure their house-buying journey went as smoothly as possible. Suzan said: “Jane, who was our sales advisor, was so friendly and supportive to us, constantly calling up on us and making sure we were settling in. “The site team were also a big help. When we first moved in, they were at our door seeing if there was anything they could do for us and helped us in getting rid of all our boxes.” Describing what she liked most about the house, she said: “The outlook from inside is beautiful. It was designed with light woodwork, making it feel so open. Compared to this, my old home felt so dreary and dark. “The views from the house are stunning. There are fields, a vineyard and we can also see lakes in the far distance.” Since retiring, Suzan has pursued her passion for art and creates professional drawings of dogs and people. “In my old home, I used to create my art in the kitchen. Now I am turning one of my rooms in my new house into an art studio. The rooms are very bright so are ideal for me to set up my studio in.” Suzan and Allan are also enjoying their new surroundings on the edge of the beautiful South Downs. She said: “The surrounding area is full of stunning views. We take our dogs to explore parks to see all these views. Ditchling Common is one of our favourite places to go and it is only a short drive from the house.” As the couple live so close to Burgess Hill town centre, Suzan and Allan have quickly become regulars at their local restaurant Buon Appetito, even becoming friends with the owner. Although she hasn’t been given the all-clear from cancer, Suzan says she feels more healthy than she has in a long time. “Moving house has definitely had an impact on this. Everything feels fresh and new, and this has played a part in improving my health.” Less than a handful of four-bedroom detached houses remain at Folders Grove, with prices starting from £990,000. First look at new Jones Homes development in Minster on Sea

Jones Homes Southern has revealed the first images of its latest development on the Isle of Sheppey. The illustrations provide a glimpse into the design and appearance of the properties that are being built at Shurland Park, a collection of 171 new houses in Minster on Sea. Shurland Park will be located on land to the north of Jones Homes’ Shurland Place development, which was completed in 2017. Construction work on the 10.6-acre site, to the west of Scocles Road, has now begun after the housebuilder received planning permission from Swale Borough Council. Both sites will form part of the wider Thistle Hill development which is taking shape at the southern edge of the town. Sara Stanhope, Sales and Marketing Director for Jones Homes Southern, said: “These computer-generated images give potential buyers a chance to see how the homes at Shurland Park will look. They represent a cross-section of the latest house designs and styles that we will be bringing to this next phase of development at Thistle Hill. “Shurland Park is the latest example of our ongoing commitment to delivering new homes for the Isle of Sheppey.
