Jones Homes donates outdoor library to Whitley and Eggborough primary school

Youngsters at Whitley and Eggborough Community Primary School in Whitley can enjoy a good read in their wellbeing garden after Jones Homes gave them an outdoor library. Jones Homes is building family homes at its Teasel Green development in Eggborough, just over a mile from the school, supplied the enclosed outdoor structure which has bookshelves, a roof and a glass-fronted door so that the children can see what’s inside. It has been put in place in the school’s wellbeing garden. Headteacher Alison Coventry said: “After Covid, our school council wanted to create an area in school where people could go if they felt anxious or worried. They then designed our wellbeing garden in memory of one of our teachers, Jayne Hardy, who sadly passed away last year. “Reading for pleasure and reading to support mental health is a strong focus in our school and so our children wanted an outdoor library. “They wanted to be able to read in the area and be able to have access to new books without needing to buy. The outdoor library that was kindly donated by Jones Homes has helped the children achieve this vision. “The children love it, and we are hoping that families will use it to swap books rather than feeling the need to buy them.” Teasel Green Sales Advisor Janette Ager, visited the school at the end of term to see how the pupils were enjoying the new library. Jones Homes supports council in lighting up Eggborough for Christmas

Jones Homes has proved it has its roots in the local community by funding a Christmas tree and festive lights in Eggborough. Jones Homes, which is building new homes at its Teasel Green development off Weeland Road in the village, were delighted to help the Parish Council and pay for the public display. The council has used a donation from Jones Homes to buy a 16-foot tree and the lights that decorate it, as well as a number of streetlamps displayed in the village. The tree has been placed on Selby Road in the centre of the village. Cllr Christian Cotter, Vice Chairman of Eggborough Parish Council, said: “Without the generosity of the local businesses, the parish council cannot bring additions to the village for the benefit of the residents. The kind donation from Jones Homes and other local businesses towards the festivities in the village has covered the cost of the Christmas tree and lights, as well as increasing the recently erected streetlamp light displays.” Jayne Swift, Sales and Marketing Director for Jones Homes Yorkshire, said: “Whilst there have been new homes within Eggborough before, this is a new location for Jones Homes, so we were delighted to have an opportunity to light up the village this December. “At Jones Homes we are proud of being a family-run company and now that we are building new homes in Eggborough we want to become part of the local village community. “It is lovely to see the Christmas tree in all its glory and to see the festive displays on the streetlamps. The perfect place to work for sisters Janette and Jackie

Sisters Janette Ager and Jackie Ward are now both working as sales advisors for Jones Homes – having both initially applied for the same job. Jackie, 60, and younger sibling Janette, 58, recently joined Jones Homes and are selling new-build properties at different developments in Yorkshire. Janette, who lives in Brough, was appointed by the firm in September and is a sales advisor at Teasel Green in Eggborough, while Jackie, who lives in Micklefield near Leeds, joined the company a month later, and works at Beaumont Grange in Treeton. “I applied for the job first and told Jackie to go for it too as I knew she was looking to make a move from where she was working,” said Janette, a mum-of-two. “We both went for an interview on the same day. Jackie went in first and we saw each other in the car park and wished each other luck. “I got the job and have enjoyed every minute of it. Apparently, they were really impressed with Jackie too and found it hard to choose between us. In the end, they offered Jackie a job a few weeks later, so she has forgiven me.” The sisters, who grew up in Pontefract, began their careers in the construction industry six years ago when Janette landed a job as a sales consultant, after she went along to a housing development when her daughter was buying a new house. “By the end of the appointment, the sales advisor had persuaded me that I would not only be good at the job but that I should apply to the firm,” she said. “I did and they offered me a job which I took.” Jackie joined the building industry when Janette encouraged her to pursue a different career. “Janette knew I would be good at the job and, perhaps more importantly, really love it,” said Jackie, also a mum-of-two. “She was right on both counts. She knows me better than anyone and we have worked closely before when we worked for 15 years at Argos, where we both became store managers. “I am a real people person. I love talking to different people, learning about their lives and what makes them tick. At Jones Homes, as sales advisors we are encouraged not only to use our diplomatic and negotiation skills but also to take the time to get to know the customer and to listen to what they want. Only then can we start to deliver what is right for them and to help them make the move into their dream house. Jones Homes has acquired land in Edgerton where it will build an exclusive development of 40 new executive homes. The land deal to purchase the site was completed on Wednesday 5 February with planning permission for the 7.8-acre site off Queen’s Road already in place. The development, which will be called Clayton Manor, will consist of a collection of four and five-bedroom detached houses all for private sale. David Ruffley, Regional Director for Jones Homes Yorkshire, said: “We have now completed the acquisition of this site, with our detailed plans approved by Kirklees Council in November 2024, so we are now very much looking forward to starting construction. “Clayton Manor will be an attractive residential development which will deliver much-needed quality housing for the area and will provide a mix of high-specification four and five-bedroom detached houses. “The development lies within the Edgerton Conservation Area which is identified as a leafy Victorian residential neighbourhood with large, detached houses set in generous grounds. Jones Homes Yorkshire has purchased the land for three new phases of new homes at Lambcote Meadows in Maltby. Detailed planning permission was granted by Rotherham Council in June this year for 300 homes across the site between Grange Lane and Stainton Lane on the north-eastern edge of the South Yorkshire town. These homes will form phases two, three, and four of the wider Lambcote Meadows project, which covers a 39-acre site in total. The first phase of the scheme features 10 three, four and five-bedroom homes – 95 for private sale and five affordable homes – with nine of these now complete. Jones Homes acquired the latest parcels of land in November paving the way for the construction of 205 homes for private sale and 95 affordable properties. The development as a whole will see significant investment in local services through the planning agreement, including circa £750,000 for education, £200,000 for sustainable transport, £75,000 for signal improvements at Queens Crossroads and £15,000 for bus stop improvements. In addition, a Community Infrastructure Levey payment of circa £723,000 is to be made.
